I am about to purchase a translation package (probably Trados) and would like to know if anyone has had experience (positive or negative) when using this with an Apple iBook or Powerbook.

Unfortunately I am both new to CAT, and inexperienced with computers...

Any comments appreciated,

Hi Paul

I use Wordfast on an iBook (G3) and a PC. So far I haven't encountered any problems. As far as I know, this is the only CAT that really works with Apple systems. However, Wordfast can work with TMs from other CAT tools such as Trados etc, so if you are restricted to Macs, you can still remain compatible with PC-based tools.

OmegaT and the Araya Suite both run on Mac OS X.

You can run PC CAT tools within Virtual PC on a Mac.

In my experience, it would most probably be best to avoid a CAT that integrates within an MS application in a virtual PC environment. Just more possibility of things going wrong. Word itself has enough problems in a Virtual environment so a good alternative may be using a CAT independant from word.

I've talked a few people now and most of them said that SDLX stays consistent across the board. Performance is not really affected by Virtual PC.
