What do you think: is our profession dying or dead? After twenty years, I don't think I will renew the ProZ membership. What do you think?

Not at all! Since the pandemic work has been more irregular than ever. For instance, in July I had almost no work and in August I was flooded with work the whole month. September is looking good, too. All in all, things look pretty alive…

I am alive and kicking, and so translation business.
About renewing your ProZ membership, only you can decide it. However, I have the feeling that with so many things happening on this site lately many members must have the same opinion/question as you.

Yesterday, I replied to a thread. Shortly later, the thread was removed. That made me feel startled a great deal: has this site become a place of the single truth?

If AI is able to 'crack' cuneiform script, how difficult would it be to translate modern languages?

What makes you think that it is AI that has done the 'cracking' ?
If you use DeepL, then it is not DeepL that has done the initial translation, but the zillion existing documents and pages that it has been fed with, followed by human intervention to eleminate obvious errors and to learn the machine how to establish better connexions.
