I have previously moved to Brazil for study and to the UK for work. I loved being able to just go and live somewhere very different.
At this moment though, I would prefer to stay where I am. I live in a house with a lovely garden, in a lovely place at the outskirts of a beautiful, friendly town, close to my family and my boyfriend's family (both sets of parents are getting older so we try to visit regularly).

I also found that, although I loved moving and living abroad each time, it does take a lot of time and effort to build a social life somewhere else, so I am not keen to keep moving.
I would certainly recommend it to anyone before settling down though! ▲ Collapse
At my age not any more, but in 1985 I moved to Belgium for a job opportunity at the European Community (as it was called then) and stayed in Brussels for 30 years. It was a very pleasant and fulfilling experience.

Is the question about an employment? Or why would a freelancer need to relocate for work?

| Quick Polls and typos... | Nov 6, 2025 |
One of the rules regarding the Quick Polls says:
“Each poll suggestion will be vetted by site staff based on a number of factors, including (but not limited to) adherence to site rules and policies, relevance and interest to site users, and proximity to other poll questions. Site staff may alter the poll questions or answers to correct spelling, grammar, or improve clarity.”
Yet, quite often Quick Polls contain typos. The last one is opportunuty... | | | | Oscar Núñez Alfaro કોસ્ટા રીકા Local time: 19:36 સભ્ય (Oct 2026) અંગ્રેજી થી સ્પેનીશ + ... | No, I would not | Nov 6, 2025 |

I moved to Spain from Italy in 2011, but at my age, not anymore, instead I am now considering to come back to Italy for some reason. like Marjolein says it does take a lot of time and effort to build a social life somewhere else, cultural differences do not help.

Personally, I would if the opportunity is good enough. Though for the time being, I am excluding... *ahem*... "certain countries" that have a Silly Valley and an orange weirdo for a president.
However, my wife is very adamant on staying not only in Germany but in the state of Baden-Wuerttemberg, so there's that. She did once drop that she would consider relocating if I were to make upwards of a million in the new country, so that's not happening anytime soon. | | | | | For several reasons | Nov 7, 2025 |

I do have to laugh at the smugness and "Gratismut" of Germans when they criticise leaders of other countries. If you called a German politician a name like "orange weirdo", they could report you to the police for insult, which can be punished by up to a year in prison.

I'm not great at filtering and censoring myself, nor do I really wish to. I am also not exactly squeamish about our own politicians. Hard to find a single nice (or even "not non-nice") word about the complete human and political failure that is Merz. Why sugarcoat it?

Well, be careful what you say about German politicians, especially those on the left. They don't take criticism well. Let's not forget Robert Habeck and the "Schwachkopf" affair.

Well, politicians hate the truth and can't handle it. Doesn't matter if they are left, right, green, blue, brown or what-fecking-ever. Not going to censor myself over it.
But I'm not going to derail this thread any further

In Germany, it is in fact politicians on the left who run to the police most frequently to report citizens for insulting them. I guess they're just authoritarian communists. | | | | | વિષયના પાનાઓ: [1 2] > | To report site rules violations or get help, contact a site moderator: You can also contact site staff by submitting a support request » Poll: Would you consider relocating to another country for a job opportunuty? | Wordfast Pro | Translation Memory Software for Any Platform
