Hello,

First of all, if this topic has been discussed before and the answer is in some help file or archive on this website please feel free to point out to me. You can also address the answer to my personal inbox. Thanks.

I do English Chinese pair and one of my key contact PM told me sometimes with tagged documents the translated text would have problem in the codes if the work was done in an English operating environment. So I think to ensure quality I'd better have a Chinese O/S. The problem is I'd like to keep my English O/S and I plan to share resources between both O/S. So I was hoping to use a dual-boot.

Unfortunately all the Windows online help file I found regarding multiboot or dual-boot are about using different Windows systems, such as XP + 98 or +2K or +NT...Or with Linux. So I wonder if any of you have faced the same requirements and have you tried to set up two Windows XP Pro of two different language versions on your PC?

I have two HDDs and plan to install the Chinese version on the slave drive.

I have PartitionMagic 4 but not sure if it has a boot manager program.

Any suggestions? Potential technical issues with this implementation? Any third-party boot management tools that you'd like to recommend? Please let me know and thanks for your help in advance.

Angie

Virtual PC could be an option Aug 19, 2004

I am not sure about dual-boot with different languages, but I have used 'Virtual PC' (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtualpc/default.mspx) in the past which let's you run (emulate) multiple OS inside Windows XP. This might be an option you would want to consider.

You can use a BIOS option Aug 19, 2004

There is usually a possibility to change boot sequence in BIOS to choose a boot drive. It is not as convenient as Virtual PC, but if you need only two systems, it will be sufficient, and performance will be better. Of course you can have multiple systems on each drive created using any other method.
