We (an agency) need to get Transit because our main client has just got it. We are happy to do so, but STAR tell us we will have difficulty returning projects to our client in Transit format if our freelancers use Trados. They say the workaround is laborious at agency level, it must be operated by a speaker of source and target language (which we don't have at agency level for all combinations involved) and some information will be lost in the process.

I think the subtext is that STAR want us to make all our freelancers get Transit. Although we will help those of our freelancers without any TMS to get Transit, we are not willing to impose solutions on the rest.
Are STAR right about the workaround, or is there an easier solution out there that they haven't told us about?

Our colleague, Arkadym has written a macro, which can convert Star Transit files to Trados-segmented Word files and back.
You can download it here, it is self-explaining.
