Hi everyone,

I'm looking for interlingual live-subtitles I can use for my diploma thesis. In my diploma thesis I want to compare live-subtitles with a simultaneous interpretation of the original. However, I couldn't find any interlingual live-subtitles yet (en-de, de-en, es-de, de-es preferred). For the comparison a 15min. sequence of live-subtitling would be sufficient.

I already contacted various TV-stations and companies, without any success.

Hi Selina,

Since live-subtitling is offered in some conferences as a service to people with hearing problems, they may have some material you could.

Besides that, have you contacted this company in Berlin? I know that the director, Mary Carroll, gives conferences on this kind of subtitling.

Thanks very much for your suggestions and information.

I already contacted Titelbild and Mary Carroll some time ago as I was needing some information. They were very kind and helpful. A few days ago I contacted them again; hope they will respond having some good news for me!

I also wrote to CNSE in Spain but they "only" deal with intralingual subtitles.

I hope I can finally find the material I need!

You can watch TV on-line - perhaps you can find what you are looking for there. I am not sure I understand ... simultaneous interpreting (?), that means that you won't hear the source language, right?

[ Not live and not interpreting, but the NZ Maori News Te Kaea is subtitled within four hours daily. I suppose that's not unusual (?). TV1's Te Karere Maori News is subtitled overnight. Live-subtitling is apparently under consideration ... ]

OK, I see. You just want live-subtitles. Then you are going to have the simultaneous interpreting of the source text done as a separate exercise, and compare the two. Is that it? Do your supervisors have any suggestions of where to go to get source material? What about 'the literature' on the subject, in T&I/media journals, magazines etc, perhaps that might give you some leads. Or try 'Media Studies' specialists. (I guess you have looked into all this already ...) L

I already searched the relevant literature, however the problem is that the majority focusses on intralingual live-subtitling.

I already searched the relevant literature, however the problem is that the majority focusses on intralingual live-subtitling.

Actually, I already have the video of a live-subtitled programme which I got from my supervisor. I already compared it with a student's simultaneous interpretation of the original in some kind of "pre-"experiment. The problem is, that it's a broadcast from the year 1986 and I would like to have a more actual programme, so I can present a well-founded experiment (in case of emergency I could use it again for the new experiment, however it would be preferrable to have new live-subtitles).

I will certainly not give up the ghost, however I always appreciate any hints or information!
