Hi all, I'm looking for a good suttitling software, which works perfectly subtitling in Japanese and in Windows Vista (both mandatory!). I thought about SST G1, however, it seems too expensive for beginners like me. However, if in your opinion it's the best product, then I would reconsider...Any opinion will be welcome. Thanks for you kind help!

Hi
Subtitle Workshop might be a good choice. I think it's freeware so you might give it a try.

VirtualDub

One of the computer lab techs at my local community college recommended this program to me several months ago. I haven't had time to try it out but she used it to add subtitles to Japanese music videos. It is free.

It lacks the editing power of a general-purpose editor such as Adobe Premiere, but is streamlined for fast linear operations over video. It has batch-processing capabilities for processing large numbers of files and can be extended with third-party video filters. VirtualDub is mainly geared toward processing AVI files, although it can read (not write) MPEG-1 and also handle sets of BMP images." http://www.virtualdub.org/

Thank you very much for your kind advice!!

I had tried Subtitle Workshop almost 1.5 year ago and then it was not compatible with Windows Vista. Now it seems it is, so I'll check it again.
Regarding the VirtualDub, according to their page it seems it's not yet compatible with Windows Vista. Have anyone tried it with Japanese and Windows Vista, please kindly inform me.
Anyway, I really appreciate your kind and quick advice, sorry for I could not reply to you before.
Warm regards, Hisako

Hi, I found this thread and it looks like you were successful with Japanese in Subtitle Workshop. Their support is terrible so I haven't received any answers from them, but maybe you can give some advice about settings or inputmethods that work for you?
thanks,
Glen
