So how much by the hour in Canada ladies? A number would be awesome.
I've been asked by my agency to provide a quote, and I have no clue what to respond.

Those rates are quite an eye-opener given that I was quoted a rate of $0.01 per word for a proofreading job (checking a translation against a source text) this week...

Hi,

I came across your answer (in 2017!) as I was looking for ways to charge better for my proofreading/editing/reviewing projects. I used to charge a minimum of 25% of the translation value for all three types and then add a surcharge depending on the number and type of changes I had to make.

I like how you calculate the rate. Clients can have a rough idea, even before the project begins, of how much they would have to pay.

A little math will answer your question. Only you know how much you need to make an hour in order to pay all your bills and financial obligations, to lead a comfortable life and have some money laid aside for the unexpected.

It depends on the proofreaders & editors what he/she will be charges for the job of proofreading either they charge with hours or words. As I am thinking the standard rates for the proofreading is $30–35/hour or if I am talking about the standard rate per words are 0.03$ - 0.07$.

Of course we can give guidelines and advice, but there are many factors to take into account. And anything that looks like a price-fixing syndicate is illegal in many countries. So in fact there is no standard rate.

In this work, common pitfalls include misinterpreting nuanced legal terms, missing slight variations that change the legal meaning, or overlooking jurisdiction-specific requirements. Since I’ll need to cross-check every term and possibly adjust the AI-generated output to ensure it aligns with legal standards, the extra time and mental energy justify a higher rate. Ultimately, this allows me to deliver the quality and attention to detail that legal documents demand.

In this particular case, 50-60U$D per hour reflects the challenges presented by the assignment.
