Problems with Kudoz toolbar V2. Nov 13, 2005

Dear Jason,

I know this might not be the proper place for this topic. But I posted it in two or three forum and no answer, no feedback, no results. The problem has not been addressed yet. Since I assume it is something that everybody cares about, I paste it below:

Dear Jason,

"Kudoz toolbar has been VERY useful to me, indeed. Unfortunately, three different antyspyware programs detected spyware in it (cram toolbar). That had not happened during the first couple of months, so I clicked "disregard" or "allow" to disregard it.
However, since my PC system was becoming slower and more & more unstable, I uninstalled the toolbar, cleaned the PC up, and installed the new version, following Colin´s advice in another forum ( http://www.proz.com/topic/38433 ).

As a search engine, it seems to work OK now, but it`s too early for judgements yet. However, behind the "Kudoz search" and "ask a question" signs, you can see all kind of things, from desktop icons to words belonging to old searchs or anything you might have written the day before, including words in WORD (if it`s open) or emails (if OE is open), that mix up with those sign words in some kind of crazy puzzle.

It really bothers and hurts my eyes. Does it happen to anybody else? Can anybody fix it? Does anybody care, besides me?
Thanks"

Jason, can YOU fix it, pleeeaaaaase?
Thanks a lot.

Walter

Combo boxes --> YES!!! Nov 20, 2005

Ah!! Finally somebody said it!! I find it a bit annoying to try to look down the list of subjects, for instance, when I'm restricting a search, so I usually leave it as "Any", but then get too many answers

Álvaro Blanch wrote:

I think this would be useful both for language and specific field selection, both in the Ask Question and the Search functions, making ProZ even more user-friendly.

Now, what would really be ideal would be to have a 'smart' type of combo box (I don't know if there is such a thing), whereby you could type in the field and the machine would find a match to ANY part of the text, not only reading from the start. I think it's better illustrated with an example.

Search Kudoz terms by user? Nov 22, 2005

I've just came up with this idea. Would it be possible to search the KudoZ archives by username?

For example, I've been going crazy for the last 10 minutes trying to find a question posted by a specific user, but I can't remember exactly what the words were in the question title. I know what the question is about, of course, but not *the title* as it would appear in the archives.

I don't remember either 1) if I answered the question or just commented on it (I know I

I don't remember either 1) if I answered the question or just commented on it (I know I commented in the "Ask Asker" box and in agrees, but I can't remember if I gave my own answer), 2) the date of the question. [I know, I should probably take memory pills!!!]

And sometimes I would like to be able to search within my own questions in a manner other than clicking on each page of my evergrowing KudoZ answered and asked list and reading every title. I'd like to be able to use keywords to search, as in the general KudoZ seach, BUT only within my own questions and/or answers.

It would be a restricted search by username, then. For every user (including myself) = to search questions asked. For myself = to search questions asked/answered.

Does it sound like a nice feature to have? Would it be feasible? Does anyone else have the same need for it? Pleeeeease?

Thanks a lot!!

Flag archived KudoZ questions? Nov 22, 2005

I just thought of another thing: would it be possible to flag KudoZ questions that are already closed and archived?

For instance, this question I've been going crazy trying to find, if I could've had the opportunity to "mark" it or flag it somehow, to use it as a reference later, because I know it's full of information that may come in handy not once, but several times for my own work...

This may be like bookmarking the question in my Web browser, perhaps... but having it bookmarked internally within ProZ would be better, I think. I don't know if the URLs for questions change, and maybe a bookmarked page on a Web browser can show the link has expired later on, but if we could have the questions marked for reference within ProZ, then they would always be where they were supposed to be. Even if our computer crashes or our Web browser goes insane

I haven't used the Dashboard feature much. Could this flagging of questions be, perhaps, linked to flagged colleagues? As in, for instance, I know Mary Smithereens asks very good questions, so I flag her. But then I'd like to be able to mark some of her questions to refer to them in the future.

That would be great Of course, if it's already possible in some other way that I'm not aware of, please tell me!!

Thanks!

Other Nov 28, 2005

Steffen Walter wrote:

"Other" has been my pet peeve for quite some time.

To overcome this problem, i.e. the apparent inability of some askers to classify their questions properly, we should abolish "Other" altogether. In my opinion, there will always be a specific category on the list that fits the question at hand.

"Other" is one of my pet peeves, too, Steffen. But just now I was reclassifying dozens of questions I had answered and found no satisfactory way of classifying "culinary", "military" (non-technology terms), "wine/viticulture", "gardening", "sewing", etc. questions.

I guess we're stuck with Marketing, Social Science or Technology for these kinds of questions.

Dashboard not working Dec 6, 2005

Is there any way to stop receiving those annoying KudoZ notifications? I prefer to check them on the website. I set up my dahsboard in order to turn off any KudoZ notification (as opposed to Job notifications) but it doesn't seem to work.

The "cockpit" graphic made me think it would be complicated Dec 20, 2005

The dashboard is easy to use, but the "cockpit" graphic made me think it would be complicated, so I put off changing my preferences for months (since I've never gotten a job through ProZ, even when I was Platinum, it wasn't a priority).

Perhaps there are others who have been scared off by an image that seems to symbolize rocket-science level complexity.

email job and kudoz notification Jan 5, 2006

I have not been receiving email job or kudoz notification since
before December 21st. Is that a result of the new Dashboard features?

Well, I am still scared And I don´t have time to learn how to use this new feature, so I definitely prefer the old one. Isn´t there a means to chose the format?

I guess it´s a matter of finding time to check it out!

Where did all the friendly faces go? Feb 24, 2006

Maybe I am unprofessional and all, but I feel kind of weird not seeing all those friendly faces in Kudoz, just their names... Is there a way to get them back?

Moreover, most of the profile photos were larger than shown in the forums etc., so it was easy to enlarge them with Firefox plugins and actually see the person who was on the picture. Now all the photos are resized the same, so you cannot see much any more...

Images should be back again Feb 24, 2006

Hi Jabberwock,

The disappearance of KudoZ images was a glitch--they should be back again. Thanks for reporting the problem.

The image resizing was done to conserve bandwidth and increase the speed of the site. It is now possible to click the photo in a profile page to see the original, unresized photo.

Thanks for your feedback.

Best regards,

Jason
