Whilst January is certainly a slower month than average when it comes to work, for me August is the slowest month overall as in the countries where my source languages are spoken everyone departs on holiday.

because it used to be the case many yers ago, I don't know why. I looked a few years back and there is no month that would be systematically the slowest one, the figures seem pretty random.

It used to be July-September (mostly August), but recent years have shown that there is no pattern, every year is different. 2018 was very slow to start but then things picked up rapidly and now I’m overloaded with work. In 2017, January was my busiest month ever (in over 30 years). So, the "road" is as bumpy as always…

I think that in January, many companies and outsourcers are looking for new translators and since I started freelancing about 8 years ago, January has always been the month I received the most new offers and tenders. But that doesn't always mean work, so I guess my answer is - yes, but also no, if that makes sense?
I don't see any pattern within the years

I don't why but it is this year. I work with Germany and all of my clients have been sending little or no work. It may be because it's the start of the year coupled with the political uncertainty.

For many years January used to be the slowest month for me. However, this January has been the busiest ever. In fact, I have had more work so far this month than in the last 6 months!

January was the worst month in 2017 and now it still is...Well at least I hope so. If it's not, I guess I'll have to look for a job for this month was a real disaster!
Definitely, yes | Jan 26, 2018 |
Down here in the Southern Cone, January means summer holidays and no conference interpreting at all... Sometimes it could be a meeting with a foreign vendor who visits a client, or even a three-day conference (the only one in the whole month). I use to go on vacation in March, so I take this opportunity to plan what my new year would be, I catch up with administrative and marketing tasks, and focus more on translation (and visit family and friends...). Thank God my clients always have documents ... See more Down here in the Southern Cone, January means summer holidays and no conference interpreting at all... I can relax a bit, enjoy Buenos Aires in summer, and work solely/mostly from home. ▲ Collapse
Yes, but with one caveat | Jan 26, 2018 |
January has been one of the slowest months for me for the past three years, because, apart from occasional clients here and there, I have been working for the same three clients over these years. As for finding work, however, I find that August and September are bleak months for me.

It often starts out slow, the first week or so after the holidays is more or less dead! By the middle of the month it's normal.

I've had a decent number of interesting jobs so far but as other colleagues have mentioned, there is no pattern - some months can be better than others.
