Italian term

calo-forno

Italian to English Tech/Engineering Patents melting furnaces for scrap metal
They refer to it as the "so-called" calo-forno, but I fail to see who else calls it that. Can't find it anywhere, for love nor money. We are talking about the classification of scrap metal.

melt loss

For the purposes of this article, melt loss is defined as how much metal is lost during the melting process due to oxidation of the aluminum.

The only specific reference I can find online is a pdf. Here's a link to the PDF: https://tinyurl.com/y8h2opll
"scaglia" is swarf (of that I'm sure because in my line of business, it's a common term)

At the link, note that it says "diminuzione del calo forno (quantità di scaglia prodotta"
Peer comment(s):

disagree Nick Pell : this does not apply to melting metal

the purity of the scrap, as the text says, as an effect on the swarf. It says nothing about melting the metal. So what's your suggested answer?
