Ämnesstål v. stålämnen The two words mean something slightly different, but whether the difference is significant for your translation is a different matter. Stålämnen is steel ingots all right, but ämnesstål is the type of steel that is used for steel ingots. In compound words of this kind the second element is "the thing" while the first element says "something about the thing". Körsbärssaft - juice made from cherries; saftkörsbär - the type of cherries that are suited to juicemaking.
