Swedish term

arbetsgemenskap

Swedish to English Art/Literary General / Conversation / Greetings / Letters
Of course it is clear what this is - a group of co-workers, the community of friends and colleagues one has at their workplace.

However I am looking for some one or two word phrase that expresses it nicely in English, and still remains an academic sounding term.

Any ideas?

Discussion

Sven Petersson Oct 31, 2013:
@ Chris S, No, it would not.
Christopher Schröder Oct 31, 2013:
Wouldn't plain "colleagues" cover it?
Charlesp (asker) Oct 31, 2013:
to respond to Lene Yes, in one's working environment. Not as a coopertative, but of course that is the underlying message here with this term - that workers in a company or even large corporation are part of a cooperative, with all that implies.

A few examples of usage: "trivdes i sin arbetsgemenskap" - "trivdes i sin närmaste arbetsgemenskap" "det fungerar bra i den arbetsgemenskapen"
Lene Johansen Oct 30, 2013:
More context Are we talking about arbetsgemenskap as in a healthy workplace environment or arbetsgemenskap as in a cooperative?
Collaborative work environment might also be another alternative, this all depends on the context of the term.

närmaste arbetsgemenskapen = immediate workplace community

Note from asker:
Excellent suggestion. Not sure it works though in the context of "närmaste arbetsgemenskapen," i.e. 'closest workplace community'
Peer comment(s):

agree Cynthia Coan : I must admit that I'm hard pressed to think of a better translation than this one.

agree Anna Herbst : "Immediate workplace community" sounds good, taking the asker's note into consideration.

workers solidarity

Just a shot in the dark!
Peer comment(s):

disagree Lene Johansen : You will be hard pressed to find the word solidarity incorporated in the corporate speak for English

working circle

I like the use of circle here as we find ourselves often to say that "the world is small" within the working environment

+ the website below seems to fit the concept

collegial workplace

At this late stage, I'll suggest a different spin on the idea, with a word that is more specific and limited in scope, and has a more positive connotation. Perhaps a minority view ... but here's some reading where this idea, among others, is suggested as a 'collegial, flexible workplace'.

workplace camaraderie

"They have developed a real camaraderie after working together for so long." (Example from http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/camaraderie) Also, many hits on Google and Google Books.
Example sentence:

"You can't ignore the importance of relationships and the role that relationships play when building a sense of workplace camaraderie."
