Portuguese term

condição de sujeito

Portuguese to English Social Sciences Psychology
A document about psychologists in schools in Brazil. I would work around it but it appears too many times in the document.

Thanks!

Discussion

Paulinho Fonseca Aug 11, 2015:
I understood it as parents failing at modeling their roles facing their general social challenges. :/
judith ryan (asker) Aug 11, 2015:
It has to do with the individual recovering his or her position in life, as a protagonist
Paulinho Fonseca Aug 11, 2015:
Judith,

What I have seen in discussions is that 'condição de sujeito' implies 'parents' role'. What are your thoughts?

human agency

"Condição de sujeito" may mean mainly 2 different things, but they have some similarities:

1) as opposed to "condição de objeto", refers to someone who acts, it means you have reclaimed your status as an active individual, an agent, instead os being an object--these terms are the same ones we use in grammar; or
2) it simply refers to your status as an individual, as opposed to a "thing", when you and other people around you acknowledge your subjectivity

I don't know how to say that in English, but I've quickly made some research and the best thing I could find was the wikipedia link below. I have no clue if it's right, but I hope the above explanation helps you at least a little bit.

Role

Neste exemplo:
The term self-concept is a general term used to refer to how someone thinks about, evaluates or perceives themselves. To be aware of oneself is to have a concept of oneself.

"The list of answers to the question “Who Am I?” probably include examples of each of the following four types of responses:...2) Social Roles: We are all social beings whose behavior is shaped to some extent by the roles we play. Such roles as student, housewife, or member of the football team not only help others to recognize us but also help us to know what is expected of us in various situations."

Espero ter ajudado.

status of actor

Seria a minha sigestão...

While partially influenced by both Liberation Theology and Illich's work (1973), Freire suggested that the main goal of education was
"liberation." According to this objective, those individuals involved in education must shift from the status of object (being taught) to the status of actor/subject (learning). According to Freire (1972, 1976), effective education includes theoretical as well as practical knowledge that relates to the local context rather than decontextualized curricula.
