Sympatholytics are drugs that oppose the actions of the postganglionic fibres of the SNS. They are also referred to as antiadrenergics or sympathetic (adrenergic) antagonists.
Both groups are subdivided further depending on their actions on either alpha or beta- receptors.

central and peripheral sympatholytics
Although antiadrenergic is a synonym, the term "sympatholytic" is more commonly used.
sympatholytic (sym·pa·tho·lyt·ic) (sim”pə-tho-lit´ik) [sympathetic + -lytic] 1. opposing the effects of impulses conveyed by adrenergic postganglionic fibers of the sympathetic nervous system. 2. an agent that opposes the effects of impulses conveyed by adrenergic postganglionic fibers of the sympathetic nervous system; called also antiadrenergic. Note from asker:
Thank you for your help. It is a very good option, but I used "antiadrenergics" in view of the context. |
