yes! truck cab. See http://www.truckcab.com/
R. Alex Jenkins Nov 25, 2009:
truck cab - that's perfect
Lilian Magalhães (asker) Nov 25, 2009:
so can I say "truck cab" and "truck cabin"?
Evans (X) Nov 25, 2009:
possibly but Lilian wanted confirmation of the right English word to use from her Portuguese text - which I hope, between us, we have given her.
R. Alex Jenkins Nov 25, 2009:
sure, I agree.. ..but I think you might also possibly agree that this shouldn't really be a Portuguese to English Kudoz question. Maybe it could be EN-EN.
Evans (X) Nov 25, 2009:
confusion possible hi Richard, I agree confusion is possible, but it is easy to avoid. Depending on Lilian's text, she can say driver's cab, lorry cab etc. if necessary. I still think "cab" is more currently used than "cabin" which has its own potential confusions :-)
R. Alex Jenkins Nov 25, 2009:
be careful... 'cab' can also be mistaken for 'taxi cab', hence my comments before the first answer was posted.
Evans (X) Nov 25, 2009:
cab Collins English Dictionary definition of cab:
the enclosed compartment of a lorry, locomotive, crane, etc, from which it is driven or operated.
No mention of it being an abbreviation (which it obviously originally was) and it is rare to hear anyone referring to it as driver's cabin rather than cab.
R. Alex Jenkins Nov 25, 2009:
The driver's CABIN Lilian, 'cab' is an abbreviation for 'cabin' - the driver's cabin

Cab or Sleeper

I am a CDL truck driver by trade. For years I lived in the "cab" of a truck sleeping in the truck's "sleeper".

The Cab usually refers to the area used for driving while the term sleeper is specific to the area that is for domestic use.

It really depends upon what part of the truck you are referring to.
If it is a little "pick up truck" it is just a cab but in the large Semi truck or "Caminhão" it is two parts.

In general there are two types of semi-truck configurations: the Cab Over and Conventional. In a Cab Over style the Cab sits over the top of the engine and steer tires. In a conventional arrangement the engine compartment is in front of the cab.
