Japanese term or phrase: 単一電池の直列繋ぎで
Dear ProZ members,

is there anyone of you who is familiar with D-batteries and such?

In my a cartoon, some people are preparing a puppet who automatically moves his arm to welcome guests at a festival.
The person who created the puppet brings it to the chief to have feedback, and the chief says:

腕以外も動かしたかったところだが、こんなものかな
(I wished to have other parts aside from the arm move, but I suppose it will do.)

後はこのパーツを単一電池の直列繋ぎで取り付けてみようか
(Attempt 1: Now, how about installing this part connecting some D batteries in series?)
(Attempt 2: Now, how about installing it connecting this part with some D batteries in series?

My problem is the second sentence, of course.
What is being installed? The puppet itself or このパーツ? (part? parts?). I'd choose number 1, but I wouldn't want to make a mistake.

Aside from this, do you think that my translation is correct/makes sense?

Thank you very much!

connected to a series of D batteries

Explanation:
Your first translation is better because it is the part that is being connected. It's hard to visualize without seeing the picture, but usually D batteries, due to their size, are inserted in a row end to end, and I think that is what is being described here. So I would say something like, Now how about mounting this part connected to a series of D batteries?
