agree ivanamdb : yes, we have a transit area in the company I work for, where goods come in, "sit around", are then sent onto other places.

What about crossing or crossing area?

I would like to call your attention to the fact that bypass means a road that joins 2 ohter roads.

oh, now I'm so happy that I did'nt get it wrong!

but, isn't a "gate area" large enough? Jim's "transit area" seems to do the job, but "varco" sound to me like a "you can/you cannot pass" thing (that is what security is about) and I'm not sure that this is covered by "transit"...

you're right, but i think (they don't give much info) that they mean a much larger area than a gateway would suggest.
they use "accessi" for the entrances, which are monitored by security guards, CCTV etc. but once you receive authorisation you have to be able to proceed from A to B.
