Again, the Italian is confusing.
I've found mid-mounted, front-mounted and rear-mounted engines that can be set in a transversal position. However, I'm trying to understand how a mid-mounted engine can also be in the rear.
Here's the sentence:
La Silhouette ha il motore 3 litri V8 della Urraco ‘P300’ portato a 260 cavalli, sempre in posizione posteriore, centrale e trasversale.

Hi Catherine, it sounds awkward in English, but all it means is that the engine is located in the back of the car, in a central crosswise position.
This is just one way of saying it, perhaps you can find a better one now you know what it means.

At times the singular noun implies one each in every position, especially in Italian or French. For example there was a French sentence which said that Marco and Sophie welcomed their father to their house, whereas the said Marco was married to Sophie. (Mauger Rouge 2). I asked my professor how it was possible. I was told that here the sentence implies that the two fathers -Marco\'s and Sophie\'s were being welcomed. The prof gave a grammatical name to such a construction of sentence, but that was way back in 1975 and I don\'t remember it now. Italian too has such sentences. I strongly feel that such is the case here too.
