lui forse più maturo e io più uomo

Italian to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature Relationship-based biography
This is describing the events of and those leading to the eventual reconciliation between father and son, following many years of hostility between the two.

"Doveva andare così, non ci saremmo mai capiti in nessuna altra maniera finché sfiniti e maturati non avremmo messo da parte angoli dai nostri caratteri per poi abbracciarci in mezzo a una strada, lui forse più maturo e io più uomo. Mi manca."

I am unsure whether i will tag this last bit of the sentence onto the previous part, or whether I will start a new sentence, so I am looking for a good structure that I can add to what I have done so far, which is:

"It had to play out like this. We would never have understood each other in any other way. It was not until we had worn ourselves out and fully matured that we could have ever put aside our personal grudges and hugged each other in the middle of the street; him being more mature and the more manful (or "manly" ??). I miss him."

Discussion

Conor Jarrett Feb 8, 2019:
'...hugged each other in the middle of the street; him being more mature and me more of a man.'

Or: '...and me having come of age.'

I think that if you say 'manly', this this might have alpha-male connotations.
Lara Barnett (asker) Feb 7, 2019:
@ Michele Thanks. I think however that there is a suggestion in becoming more manly that you have grown up, i.e. one can depends on the other.
Michele Fauble Feb 7, 2019:
Maturity rather than masculinity With “io più uomo” I think he means having become more of a grown man, rather than more “manly”. In other words, grown man vs youth/immature man, rather than less manly vs more manly. This also makes more sense considering the rest of the sentence.
philgoddard Feb 7, 2019:
No comma after I, and manly rather than manful, which means courageous and is a bit sexist.
Lara Barnett (asker) Feb 7, 2019:
@ Phil Yes I did, thanks.

Am going with: "He was perhaps more mature, and I, more manful. I do miss him."
philgoddard Feb 7, 2019:
You've ignored "io", which changes the whole meaning. And "forse".
