Italian term

a ciò che il manto d’oro e di azzurro trasmette e permette, ora, a chi ne coglie

Italian to English Art/Literary Poetry & Literature literary essay
more context:
L’animaletto pare fronteggiare, con tutto il suo impegno, latenti e minacciose ombre provenienti, cupe ed incombenti, dal lato sinistro ed inferiore della tela, mentre il “femminile “dell’opera, nella sua semplicità, volge uno sguardo dolce e stupefatto a ciò che il manto d’oro e di azzurro trasmette e permette, ora, a chi ne coglie il senso reale.

Discussion

Maria Burnett (asker) Jan 22, 2008:
let me rephrase: trasmette e permette ora a chi ne coglie. I don't think it would make much sense any shorter. I am not sure it makes sense now.
BrigitteHilgner Jan 22, 2008:
Please note: The kudoz rules state that you should only ask for the translation of a word, not a whole sentence.

Piaia's work

I wonder if the writer actually grasps the senso reale of what he/she has produced! What work is this talking about?

at what the cloak of gold and azure reveals to the knowing beholder in the here and now

A possible alternative:

while the feminine side of the work, in its simplicity, gazes in tender amazement at what the cloak of gold and azure reveals to the knowing beholder in the here and now
(shamelessly copied from Pauley's idea, that "here and now" bit...)

agree Paul O'Brien : very nice.

to what the golden and light blue mantel transmits and permits, now, to who understands its real ..

honestly I would go with a "literal" translation - there is already enough fantasy in the text :-)

however, can they mean that understanding the real meaning of the art piece can "permit" you to go far with your thoughts or anything similar?

see answer below

"towards that which the gold and sky-blue mantle conveys and consents in the here and now to anyone who grasps its genuine significance".

or some such.
Peer comment(s):

disagree James (Jim) Davis : This is art criticism, not an ode to the painter!

at what the cloak of gold and azzure transmits and consents, to those who grasp its real meaning.

while in its simplicity the "feminine" part of the work takes a gentle and amazed look at what the cloak of gold and azzure transmits and consents, to those who grasp its real meaning.

Uggh forgot "now" which was a typing error, I had translated it in my mind.
