Italian term

consort

Italian to English Art/Literary Music
From an early music course description:

Sono previsti quotidiani momenti di consort di viole da gamba anche in collaborazione con la classe di clavicembalo...

I believe this means each day the viola and harpsichord classes will have time to collaborate together. But I am somewhat confused by the term "consort" - what's the meaning here?

Hi, have a look at the Wikipedia article below. Consort music is an existing music lineup involving different instruments (as opposed to a regular orchestra at times doubling an instrument) playing together. Someone conversant with early music would understand the term, IMO anyway!
