Italian term

atmosfere viscontiane

Italian to English Art/Literary Journalism article
Hello everyone,

I am completely stuck!

The term comes from an article on Valentino (the fashion designer) and it talks about where he draws his inspiration from.

The sentence is;

What do you think?

Any suggestions?

Thank you,

Giuliana

... they lost their wealth.
James (Jim) Davis Jul 5, 2007:
In the same lush vein as Umberto's answer it could be a reference to lush environment in which the rich and opulent Visconti family lived (still very much the aristocrats of the city) and to a sort of swinging twenties, roaring thirties. After the war...
yes, it's Luchino Visconti...
Giuliana d'Orazi Flavoni (asker) Jul 5, 2007:
Yep, I've been thinking about it, and I've come to the conclusion that it is a reference to films by Luchino Visconti

Possibly a reference to the Visconti family from medieval northern Italy?

lush Visconti's period pieces

noble circles

As a direct translation of 'viscount atmospheres' doesn't really mean anything you could try 'noble circles'-with reference to noble society. I think it works!?

ok- now I've seen the other notes, perhaps this is not specific enough!

But shouldn't viscontiane have a capital 'V' if it refers to Visconti?
Note from asker:
Thank you :)
Peer comment(s):

neutral James (Jim) Davis : It should, but this is definitely a reference to i "Visconti di Modrone" dukes of Milan.
