rural houses/homes of farmhouses

Are the houses grouped together to form a hamlet?
rural homes don't necessarily mean the people have a farm which is often the case.

Nola has 2 "frazioni", <piazzolla and Polvica, so if the xxxx are one of these, then it is "Hamlet"
