Italian term

taroccata

Italian to English Art/Literary Cinema, Film, TV, Drama Work
This is a description of a businessman who opened a TV station in country X and engaged people from the Italian TV scene. Text mentions well-known programmes like Striscia La Notizia, Che Tempo Fa, and what these became called in language X of country X. Then there is this sentence: Y(the protagonist who had worked with the Italian station) ha proprio partecipato alla Striscia taroccata, Z (another Italian TV personality) è stata invece la conduttrice di un programma, Contratto per l'Albania, in cui ha intervistato i politici, tra cui l'ex-presidente della Repubblica, Bamir Topi. Has taroccata anything to do with tarot cards, as I have not found the word and I do not always follow Striscia la Notizia. Thank you.

@ Alison Thank you for all the trouble and the references provided. Much appreciated.

Looking at other articles on this topic you might consider terms like clone, cloned or even rip-off.

Sulle frequenze televisive di Agon Channel Tv, emittente privata albanese, vanno in onda i cloni dei nostrani “Striscia la Notizia” e quello di “Che Tempo Che Fa”.

@ Josephine yes, this is what the text says, IMHO
Josephine Cassar (asker) Sep 15, 2014:
@ Sabrina basically it means that the person took part in a fake Striscia la notizia
Josephine Cassar (asker) Sep 15, 2014:
@ jamespeel No, it is an IT>EN, not FR>EN. Any links then please?

Wrong language pair This has come up in the French-English language pair - you might want to go back and edit the settings! Good luck with it!

Thank you, Josephine!
Note from asker:
Thank you very much, I found it, but not as James said-fake-don't know why I did not find it when I first looked it up-internet better than dictionaries, but not in ProZ. glossaries

3 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thank you, you were first and it is so too, but fake fits more"

phony

This word is occasionally spelled phoney. It is a synonym of fake, but carries a stronger connotation of that which is a deliberately fraudulent imitation. My internet is not working well, so I can't seem to enter the web reference. Just look up phony in Merriam Webster.

Note from asker:
Thank you, but I think 'fake' fits more, just because of the connotation of 'phony' which is not in text, though you are right.

Albanian version of Striscia

this would be the most natural translation in my view...the Albanian programme mimicked or borrowed the Format of the Italian programme, legally or illegally.

or you could say
Albania's answer to Striscia
Note from asker:
or Albania's mimic of Striscia
