Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): Hikmat Gumilar

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

Please suggest a legal (official) translation... of the entire sentence. I, too, can conjure up a literal translation, but I expect there is a formulaic translation that should be used. Thanks!

In the event the Panel of Judges of the Constitutional Court of the RI decides otherwise

'Ex aequo et bono' means 'from equity and conscience'. IMHO, 'seadil-adilnya' is implied in the Latin term.

The subject in the Indonesian main clause is hidden. However, since this is a petition (probably lodged by the lawyer of a plaintiff), I suggest that the subject be expressly stated in the translation for clearer meaning.

The complete translation of the sentence in question:

In the event the Panel of Judges of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia decides otherwise, we hereby request the Panel of Judges to render ex aequo et bono decision(s).

Note: RI in my answer is due to limited space.
Example sentence:

Condemning ex aequo et bono decisions . . . discourages adjudicators--and the parties who empower them--from pursuing the fair resolution of disputes when it is most needed: when the law fails to react adequately to the need for justice.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Conveys the same meaning as Erich's suggestion, but 'in the event' is preferable to 'in case', IMHO."

In case the Panel of Judges of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia adjudicates ...

In case the Panel of Judges of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia adjudicates this petition not in our favour, we hereby appeal the Panel of Judges to deliver ex aequo et bono judgement.

Putusan MK, IMHO, cenderung disebut dengan adjudication karena perkara di MK adalah perselisihan dua pihak atas tafsir konstitusi. Permohonan kepada MK disebut dengan petition.

Frasa kunci di sini adalah keputusan lain. Putusan MK ada tiga:

(a) menolak permohonan
(b) mengabulkan sebagian [besar atau kecil] permohonan
(c) mengabulkan seluruh permohonan.

Yang disukai pemohon adalah (c),yang tidak adalah (a). Maka, putusan lain adalah putusan yang not in our favour, tidak berpihak [sepenuhnya] kepada si pemohon. Karena itulah pemohon meminta ex aequo et bono.

... the duty vested in the Courts to interpret the Constitution and to uphold its provisions without fear or favour. If public opinion were to be decisive there would be no need for constitutional adjudication
