His eighteen birthday would have been the next Saturday, and fifteen of us had chipped in to rent the pool at the Y so we could throw a splash party for him.

Could it be anything apart from a shortened form of YMCA (Young Men's Christian Association)? Or is YMCA the only one possible here?
