In air bending, the sheet only comes in contact with the radius of the punch and the top radius of the die. For this reason, the actual angle of the tooling is relatively unimportant. The tooling’s angles only determine the min angle. The technique is flexible as well as cost efficient because with a single die and punch all angles larger than the angle of the punch and/or die can be formed. Less force is needed than in other bending techniques. This ensures the long lifespan of your tools and requires a machine of lower tonnage.
