cabling installation and testing
Hi everyone,
I have absolutely no idea what that means...
Context:
"Is there a headroom performance requirement from the tested cabling? Have you agreed how to deal with a star pass, (ie. marginal results)?"
Thanks for your help!

"The term “Star Pass” describes a cable testing result that is a pass, but only just meeting the minimum requirements. Therefore it’s a pass but the asterisk (or sometimes known as a star to less computer literate people) indicates that’s it not acceptable.
It’s not acceptable because your cabling plant will degrade in quality over time. As connectors oxidise, or the copper cores stretch, or insertions of cable reduce connector quality, or whatever, then the cabling plant needs to pass with a good amount of overhead to last the expected life of the installation.
In short, a STAR PASS is a failure and your cabling installer should replace it."
