A proxy, when referring to the document and not the person, is indeed a power of attorney but is generally used to refer to the type used in company meetings.

agree Deborah do Carmo : or power of attorney ( a proxy is not incorrect but refers mainly to when one has to vote, like at company meetings)//I think there might be a particular name for this in the music industry but can't look right now - this is safe though, I would think

Thanks Deborah, I agree that 'power of attorney' is a good alternative. As far as I know, 'letter of attorney' is used quite often in respect of trademark law, but is generally used also.
agree Johan Venter : I had a look at the power of attorney option as well, but opted for proxy. Deborah is the legal expert, however, so I'll have to agree with her :)
