Who can use Remoto?

Organizations use Remoto in different ways: Language Service Providers (LSPs) and other organizations that have their own interpreter rosters use Remoto to run their business—managing private pools, client bookings, and overflow. Healthcare, legal, and business clients use Remoto to book and manage interpretation sessions for their meetings. Individual users can request interpreters for personal or professional needs. Professional interpreters use Remoto to go online, accept calls, and get paid. Teachers, trainers, coaches, consultants, and other professionals can create professional profiles to showcase their expertise, set rates, enable booking, and offer services through Remoto's Professionals directory—separate from interpreter work when you do both. All user types can sign up from the homepage.

What types of interpretation do you offer?

I have a ProZ account. Can I use it with Remoto?

Yes. ProZ members can sign in with their ProZ credentials at the ProZ login page. Using your ProZ email when registering as an interpreter helps link your professional profile and Remoto profile. Remoto is built by ProZ and integrates with the ProZ interpreter community.

What technology do I need?

All you need is a device with a microphone and stable internet connection (a camera is required for video calls only). Our platform works on desktop browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) and mobile devices. No downloads or installations required.

We support 300+ language pairs with interpreters specialized in medical, legal, business, technical, and general interpretation. Each interpreter's profile clearly shows their areas of expertise and certifications.

Do you offer dial-in phone interpreting (OPI)?

Traditional over-the-phone interpreting—where you dial an access number from any phone without opening Remoto in a browser—is coming soon. How quickly can I connect with an interpreter?

When interpreters are online, many calls connect within a minute—often in under 30 seconds. You send a request to available interpreters who match your language pair and specialty; the first to accept connects with you.

Can I do an audio-only call without a camera?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can run an audio-only interpreting session right in your browser with just a microphone—no camera needed. Choose video only when you need face-to-face interpretation; audio-only is great for quick or phone-style conversations.

How do on-demand calls get billed?

Accepted Answer

Billing starts when you and the interpreter are connected and runs per minute at the rate shown before you start. You only pay for the time you use, and the charge is applied after the session. Add a verified payment card before paid calls.

Can I schedule sessions in advance?

Accepted Answer

Yes! You can book interpreters for future dates and times that work for your schedule. You'll get a confirmation email when you book. Email reminders before the session are coming soon. Today, Remoto shows in-app reminders when it's time to join. You can reschedule or cancel according to our policies.

Can I set a backup interpreter for a scheduled call?

Yes. For scheduled calls you can choose a primary interpreter and one or more backups. The primary runs the session and joins on time; a backup only steps in if the primary can't make it. You're only charged for the interpreter who actually runs the call — backups are free standby, so adding them costs nothing extra.

Can I invite other participants to a scheduled call?

Yes. When scheduling, you can add participant emails so guests receive a join link, and you can message the interpreter beforehand to share prep materials (a script, slides, or key terminology) right from the call's page.

What is your cancellation and no-show policy?

Accepted Answer

You can reschedule or cancel scheduled sessions according to our policies; details are in our Terms of Service. Cancelling in advance avoids charges. No-shows may be subject to fees as described in the terms. We recommend cancelling or rescheduling as soon as you know your plans.

What is Remote Simultaneous Interpretation (RSI)?

RSI lets you run conferences, webinars, and multi-language events entirely in the browser — no interpreter booths or special hardware. Speakers present in the source (floor) language, professional interpreters render it live into one or more target languages, and each audience member listens in the language they choose. You schedule the session, pick your target languages, and invite interpreters and speakers ahead of time.

Can a conference have more than one speaker?

Yes. When you schedule a conference/RSI call you can invite multiple speakers by email. Each speaker gets their own join link and joins on the floor with microphone and camera (not listen-only), so they can present and be interpreted. The audience, interpreters, and other speakers all see whoever is presenting, and on the audience and speaker screens you can see every speaker at once in a conference-style grid.

How does the audience join a conference, and what can they do?

Audience members join through a link you share — either a public link or a private lobby link where you admit people. They listen in their preferred language (the original floor audio or any interpreted language) right in their browser. The audience is listen-only (no microphone or camera) and can use the audience chat to send questions. The host can see the live audience count and the list of who has joined.

Can speakers share their screen during a conference?

Yes. Any speaker can share their screen — for example, slides. The shared screen becomes the main view for the audience and the other participants, with the speakers shown alongside it, and it returns to the speaker view when sharing stops.

Is there a chat in conference calls?

Yes — there are two separate threads. The host, speakers, and interpreters share a private 'Staff' chat to coordinate the session, and there's a separate 'Audience' chat that audience members use to ask questions and that staff can read and reply to. The audience never sees the staff thread.

How are interpreters assigned for each language?

When scheduling an RSI call you set the source (floor) language and one or more target languages, then invite one or more interpreters per target language. You can also set a primary interpreter and backups for a language — the primary runs the session and a backup only steps in if needed, and you're only charged for the interpreter who actually interprets.

How is a conference / RSI call priced?

A conference (RSI) call total is the sum of each interpreter's own per-minute rate for the time they interpret (rates can differ between interpreters), plus $2 per audience member who joins, plus a flat $30 platform management fee for the session. You see a cost estimate while scheduling the call, and the full breakdown — per-interpreter cost, audience fee, and platform fee — appears in your transaction details after the call.

Where can I see my charges and a bill breakdown?

Open Transactions in your dashboard to review every charge with the call's language pair, date, and duration. For conference (RSI) calls you can expand a transaction to see the full bill breakdown — each interpreter's cost, the audience fee, and the platform fee that add up to the total.

How much does call recording cost?

Recording is an optional add-on. When it's available for your call, enable 'Include recording download' at booking for a small per-minute fee (currently +$0.10/min) on top of the interpreter's rate. You're only charged it on calls where you turn recording on, and you can download the recording from the call's details afterward.

Can I record my session?

Yes. When you book a call, turn on 'Include recording download' (an optional per-minute add-on, currently +$0.10/min) to record the session. After the call ends and processing finishes, you can download the recording from the call's details. Recordings are private to the call's participants, delivered over a secure, access-controlled link rather than a public URL, and retained for a limited time—download a copy to keep it. For sensitive sessions, make sure everyone is aware the call is being recorded before you begin.

Who can access my call recordings?

Only the participants of that specific call—the person who booked it and the interpreter—can view or download the recording. Downloads are served through a secure, access-controlled link (never a public URL) and each download is logged. Recordings are never shared with other users or made publicly available.

How long are call recordings available?

Accepted Answer

Recordings are kept for a limited time after the call so you can download them, then removed automatically. Download a copy if you need to keep it long-term. For extended retention or deletion requests, contact remoto.support@proz.com.

How do I work as an interpreter on Remoto?

Register as an interpreter, complete verification, and add your language pairs and rates. When you're ready, go online in your dashboard; you'll receive incoming call requests that match your languages. Accept calls to connect, complete the session, and get paid. Earnings and payouts are managed in your Remoto account.

How do interpreters get paid?

Interpreters are paid for the time they spend in sessions. Earnings appear in your dashboard. Set up ProZ Pay in Settings, then request a withdrawal from Transactions when you have an available balance. Withdrawals are reviewed and processed after approval; only one request can be pending at a time.

Are your interpreters certified, and how is quality maintained?

Interpreters are reviewed before they can join Remoto. Profiles show certifications, experience, and compliance details where provided—such as identity verification or healthcare credentials. We maintain quality through application review, ongoing performance monitoring, and customer ratings and feedback after each session.

What documents do I need to submit as an interpreter?

Accepted Answer

Every interpreter must upload two identity documents to complete their profile: a government-issued ID card and a selfie of yourself holding that ID card. Beyond that minimum, requirements depend on the services you choose. If you offer medical interpreting, you must also provide a HIPAA-compliance certificate, a Fraud, Waste and Abuse (FWA) certificate, and proof of 40-hour medical interpreter training. Other specialties (legal, court, education, community) have no additional required documents. We also recommend uploading credentials that strengthen your profile and help clients find you—such as a CV, university degree, interpretation or terminology training, language certificates, and letters of recommendation—but these are optional and never block you from going online.

Is my conversation private and secure?

Yes. Video and audio are encrypted in transit using industry-standard protection. We follow GDPR and industry-standard security practices. HIPAA compliance can be provided on request—contact remoto.support@proz.com to submit your request. Your sessions are private. Call recordings are optional—a session is only recorded when recording is enabled for that call, and the recording is available only to the call's participants.

How do payment methods work, and can I remove my only card?

Add a verified payment card in Payment Methods before paid calls; you can add several and choose a default. You can remove any saved card — including your last one — though you won't be able to start paid calls until you add another payment method.
