Good evening!

I have just downloaded TO3000 Version 9, but am extremely disappointed that there appears to be no way of importing the data into it from Version 8.

I found out that the data needs to first be exported from TO3000 Version 8, in one of a choice of formats. So far, so good. What is not good is that there appears to be no way of exporting all of it at once, except in .pdf or .html format, neither of which is one of the preferred choices of the TO3000 import u

Good evening!

I have just downloaded TO3000 Version 9, but am extremely disappointed that there appears to be no way of importing the data into it from Version 8.

I found out that the data needs to first be exported from TO3000 Version 8, in one of a choice of formats. So far, so good. What is not good is that there appears to be no way of exporting all of it at once, except in .pdf or .html format, neither of which is one of the preferred choices of the TO3000 import utility (Pity!).

However, there appears to be no way of exporting even one client at a time, but only in fact a single column. One has to choose projects OR jobs OR invoices OR payments. Choosing a single one of these makes the formats that the import utility requires (e.g. csv format) come up as possible export formats.

I therefore started the painstaking process of the exports: Client No. 1, Projects.

After having exported Client No. 1, Projects, I tried first of all to import this one file into TO3000 Version 9, using the import utility.

The import utility offers in the left-hand column a choice of fields to which the PROJECT data may be imported. "Projects", alas, is not one of them. I can import under the columns "name", "address", telephone number, "fax", etc., but not "Projects".

So is there any way round it at all? Or will I have to simply start with an empty program again if I buy TO3000 Version 9? If so, then it seems it would be necessary to keep on using TO 3000 Version 8 until 31st December, and then start fresh on 1st January, 2009? Is that the case?

Utilities Jun 21, 2008

Hi Astrid,

TO 9 comes with an import utility. I don't remember exactly how I did it but the steps were explained on the help files:

Update the database version

Database version is updated automatically during TO3000, Version 9.0 setup. To update database version:

· Run TO3000, Version 9.0 Setup once again.

· Select Do not install Database option during the setup process.

· In case reinstalling TO3000, Version 9.0 does not help, run TO3000, Version 9.0, click menu Settings > Database and use Run Update Script option.

Can you post your impressions on the new version? I've been using it for the past weeks but only with the demo database (old databases can't be imported without a license).

Precisely! It is the import utility that does not work Jun 21, 2008

Certainly, there are some "steps" listed in the help files. However, as explained above, they are not at all pertinent to importing the data exported from Version 8.

Yes, most certainly I post my impression here: Version 9 can be of absolutely no use if all the hundreds of previous records have to be copied into it by hand. I simply do not have time for that.

Upgrade, not import Jun 21, 2008

You should use the upgrade utility (TO3000Upgrade.exe), not the import utility (TO3000v9Import.exe)... then point the directory of your previous installation.

Correct. Install the new program (version 9) with an empty database and then use the upgrade utility. You select the directory of your previous version and that's it.

In case of any doubts, visit this page: http://www.to3000.com/translation-office-3000/to3000/upgrade-to-version-9.html

I immediately purchased a new license for version 9. The new design looks good and gives , in my opinion, a better overview of the program. What really comes in handy, is the built-in FTP client. There are a lot of other minor changes, but I don't use them that much. The licence price for an upgrade version is very fair considering the many new enhancements.

Thanks for the tip Jun 22, 2008

Thanks, Jabberwock and Frédéric, I have it set up now, with my database from Version 8 installed.

Now I shall start to have a look at it and see what the improvements are.

Keep us posted

Wolfgang (still on version 7, too lazy to upgrade, but maybe I should take the chance)
