Hi everybody,
I am wondering if there are software applications to OCR Chinese characters, respectively if those that exist really work. Did anybody tried it and can recommend any software?
TIA,
Inga

Microsoft Office

The one provided with Microsoft Office (I think you may need the Proofing Tools as well) 2003 is good with ordinary printed Chinese. This all depends on the quality of the original copy, though.
With any OCR for Chinese, some characters will always be difficult to differentiate, unless the scan quality is extremely high.
I think Microsoft Document Imaging (the application you need to use) also came with Office XP.

The OCR software i am using came with my scanner, but it can also support JPEG and other image formats. It's name is Shangshu OCR 7.0. Sorry, I found no english introduction about it. But I recommend it strongly, its quality is cool.
There are also many other similar softwares. ZiGuang OCR HanWang OCR ...
But I found no english webpages about them either.
