"Line printer" is an older type of computer printer printing on wide paper, named after the fact that it prints line by line, one line at a time. It is indeed hooked up to dumb terminals as the text says. I am 99% certain that it is "Line printer" as per the context.

The Chinese name of "Line printer" is 寬行印表机 or 宽行打印机.

It prints the top part of each letter of a line, e.g., the dot above the "i", moving down to the middle part throughout the line and then the bottom part throughout the line to finish up the entire line, moving on to the next line, ... .
