Dear all,
I am a translator from Azerbaijan interested in visa supported translator job opportunities in USA or European Union. I translate from EN/RU/TR/CZ into Azerbaijani and have 18 years of work experience. I also worked abroad (Prague, Czech R.) for a few years and returned to Azerbaijan in 2013 to start working as a freelancer, built my own website, became of member of a linguist association (CIOL), etc. I love this job and don't want to work in any other capacity even for a reloca... I translate from EN/RU/TR/CZ into Azerbaijani and have 18 years of work experience. I also worked abroad (Prague, Czech R.) for a few years and returned to Azerbaijan in 2013 to start working as a freelancer, built my own website, became of member of a linguist association (CIOL), etc. I love this job and don't want to work in any other capacity even for a relocation package (I mean, no Customer Support Specialist, etc.).
However, I really wish to relocate again and am not sure where to start. My ideal job would be part-time or contract based, with visa sponsorship in EU or USA. Is this even possible? As Azerbaijani is a relatively smaller language, I have not been able to find any translator jobs abroad. If you have any advice, please, let me know. Any feedback is much appreciated. ▲ Collapse

Currently H1B visas are generally being granted to sponsored individuals with critical skills in computer science, engineering, medicine/virology, etc. The Central Asian market is very small for American manufacturers, and I can't imagine a company willing to hire someone with knowledge of Azeri (or any other non-strategic language) full time but with none of the usual essential skills. Freelancers are cheaper.

Thank you very much for your advice. I agree, without those skills nobody would employ me in the US, especially post Covid. So, I should really forget about that..
There are various opportunities in Europe for people with language skills, but not as a translator. All the offers are customer service or sales related positions, which I absolutely don't want to do (I have done all that and did not like it. Especially in your language which is rare. You can work with US-based agencies, you know that, but if you want to relocate to the US you will need to find some other way.

Yes, exactly. That is such a good point. AZ is not needed, especially because it is rare. Even those other positions in EU I mentioned, do not require AZ, but Turkish or Russian, or I can go back to Prague, because I speak Czech. So, all of my other languages are needed, except the one I want to work with - AZ.. And yes, I do work with US and European translation agencies since 2013 and this job pays much better than any of the jobs I did abroad. So, it wouldn't make any sense to relocate somewhere to do a job I dislike and earn much less. If you have any advice regarding trying other ways, please, let me know. I have been searching on LinkedIn, job portals - but no luck.
