I was born in Sweden to Polish speaking parents. As often is with children of immigrants, my parents often relued on me and my sister to help them out with their second language, and our frequent discussions about semantics, syntax and etymology sparked a lifelong interest in linguistics, which is why I chose an English speaking high school, studied languages at University and have always sought employment where I could use and hone my English. I am currently employed as an administrator at a university, with the visiting researchers and PhD students from all over the world, we mostly speak English at work. I have previously worked as a translator and proof reader on a freelance basis, but since starting a family, I decided to find a steady employment, but I do miss working with words. In my free time, I am learning French, German and Russian, but I am not yet skilled enough to translate from those languages. For now, it's Swedish, English and Polish for me |
