English to French: In defense of my right to abortion in Macedonia General field: Social Sciences Detailed field: Journalism
Source text - English Before June 2013, Macedonia had a rather liberal abortion law. Women could undergo the surgical intervention without being subjected to a mandatory waiting period and counselling.
Since the June 2013 imposition of a more restrictive abortion law, however, abortion in Macedonia has become not only bureaucratized, but also a complicated and drawn-out procedure exacerbated by the already unfavorable climate regarding the termination of pregnancy.
Despite the existence of constitutionally guaranteed secularism and freedom of choice regarding childbirth, the mainstream political and media discourse in Macedonia is saturated with anti-choice religious references, including in state-sponsored public campaigns against abortion.
Today in Macedonia there is no comprehensive sex education and affordable high-quality (emergency) contraceptives are not widely available, nor is medical abortion officially sanctioned. In addition, the disintegrating public healthcare system is understaffed, outdated and often not easily accessible–especially for those who live in rural and smaller urban settlements.
That is the context in which I speak out in defense of my right, and the right of all women, to safe, legal, quickly obtainable and affordable abortions

Years of experience: 8. Registered at ProZ.com: Jul 2017.
A French native speaker, I have spent the last 14 years in the UK. I am a qualified English to French translator (Diploma in Translation, options Literature and Social Science, Chartered Institute of Linguists). I specialise in Health and Social care, which I studied as part of my Bachelor Degree, Social Science and Journalism. My other fields of personal and professional interest include Fashion and Beauty and Food and Drink. I am passionate about using my language skills to improve accessibility of services and inclusion. I have collaborated with refugee services and provided assistance to French-speaking expatriates in the UK. Translating online news stories from different countries with Global Voices.org, I have had the opportunity to work on a great variety of topics, from the right to abortion, to Ethiopian food, Afghanistan and the transgender community in Brazil. In all my translations I endeavour to stay faithful to the original message while ensuring that the content is suitably localised. Inquisitive, perfectionist and committed to lifelong learning, I always enjoy a new linguistic challenge.
