G'day again
When I do a search for something, and that something occurs in more than one post in a thread, the search function returns all those posts. Is there a way to tell the search function to display a thread only once... not several times if the search word occurs in more than one post in that thread?
Thanks

Good idea!
Feb 27, 2007
Hi,
I think this is a very good idea because it would speed up dsearch a lot. Maybe it couls also be helpful to have the options "search forum topics" and "search all". Because it happened to me often, that I searched for a certain issue and got all the posts where it was mentioned but not really explaind, and I would have preferred only to search the topics to see if there was a whole forum only for this topic.

P.S.: Ok, just saw that you suggested this in a second forum, so it's already the two of us...
Good suggestion. I have logged it to the todo list.

Forum search only searches for posts and not for threads
Feb 27, 2007
I totally agree with the above suggestion.
I just wanted to add my own suggestion. The current forum search feature searches for posts but not for threads. A great way to display results would be to display threads instead of posts, with a list of posts inside each thread that contain the search string.
Example:
Search term "rates"
Results:
Rates for proofreading (thread) - My rates (post) - Billing per hour vs. billing... See more

Note: the above is just an example I made up, it's not based on actual threads/posts on the site.
If search results were displayed like in the above example, not only would it spare us all a lot of time when browsing the forum, but it would probably also help users to find the most relevant threads easily, which in turn could help in lowering the amount of new threads dealing with questions that have already been extensively discussed. ▲ Collapse
