In the afternoon, when I got home, I saw a white cat lying on the fence above the window of the basement. He seemed sick. I walked towards him. His back was to me, lying low, with his belly against the iron posts. I've never seen a cat crouched so cautiously, with the paws grabbing tightly onto the posts. his whole body was trembling, with his head shaking slightly, turning his ears continuously, it seemed like he was tracking every single sound.
When he heard my steps, he started to get nervous. The sound of each footstep of mine made him flinch. The cat was extremely afraid, but he didn't run away, nor turned his head back. When the wind blew, it made curls on his soft fur. How lovely the cat was!
It wasn't until I walked in front of him did I find that his eyes were spooned out. On the cat's small face, there were two blood-red gashes. He was still bleeding. He tried his best to shrink himself down in the ground, as if he wanted to bury himself. Maybe he wanted to commit suicide? Anyway, this cat who lost his eyes were full of hesitation. He could no longer step forwards, nor step backwards. The two thin tracks on his face, looked like the mouths of women wearing lipsticks. I stayed there watching him for a while, and then I went back home.
I reached home, no one was there. I was really hungry before I saw the cat, I was longing for the box of snacks in my house. Whereas now, I only felt nausea and numb all over my body. My head was empty, I couldn't think of anything.
The sky was cloudy and gloomy, and the room was dark. But the door to the balcony was open, it was brighter there. I went to the balcony, as soon as I looked down, I saw that cat. No one knows when it climbed up to the rim of the platform on the window, and it was trying to reach down with is fore paw. The platform was about 20 centimeters high above the ground, not much longer then his fore leg. But he couldn't reach the bottom no matter how he tried. So he lied there trying to reach for a long time. His paw is like a bamboo basket splashing on the surface of water. While I stand there, I felt an urge to jump off from 3rd floor. Then I entered.
When it was getting dark, I went to the balcony again. in the light blue gloaming, I saw the cat, still there, still trying to reach in void. In his painful sensation, the platform which was only less than a quarter meter high, must be like a dreadful abyss. I didn't know why he wouldn't give up on the painful and hopeless intention. After that he raised his head, his bloody eye rims facing the sky, he opened his mouth and cried miserably. I thought that he must be begging their all mighty cats' god to rescue him.

One day Aponibolinayen and her sister-in-law went out to gather greens.
They walked to the woods to the place where the siksiklat grew, for the tender leaves of this vine are very good to eat.
Suddenly while searching about in the underbrush, Aponibolinayen cried out with joy, for she had found the vine, and she started to pick the leaves. Pull as hard as she would, however, the leaves did not come loose, and all at once the vine wound itself around her body and began carrying her upward.[1] Far up through the air she went until she reached the sky, and there the vine set her down under a tree. Aponibolinayen was so surprised to find herself in the sky that for some time she just sat and looked around, and then, hearing a rooster crow, she arose to see if she could find it. Not far from where she had sat was a beautiful spring surrounded by tall betel-nut trees whose tops were pure gold.
Rare beads were the sands of the spring, and the place where the women set their jars when they came to dip water was a large golden plate. As Aponibolinayen stood admiring the beauties of this spring, she beheld a small house nearby, and she was filled with fear lest the owner should find her there. She looked about for some means of escape and finally climbed to the top of a betel-nut tree and hid. Now the owner of this house was Ini-init,[2] the Sun, but he was never at home in the daylight, for it was his duty to shine in the sky and give light to all the world. At the close of the day when the Big Star took his place in the sky to shine through the night, Ini-init returned to his house, but early the next morning he was always off again. From her place in the top of the betel-nut tree, Aponibolinayen saw the Sun when he came home at evening time, and again the next morning she saw him leave. When she was sure that he was out of sight she climbed down and entered his dwelling, for she was very hungry. She cooked rice, and into a pot of boiling water she dropped a stick which immediately became fish,[3]so that she had all she wished to eat. When she was no longer hungry, she lay down on the bed to sleep.
Now late in the afternoon Ini-init returned from his work and went to fish in the river near his house, and he caught a big fish. While he sat on the bank cleaning his catch, he happened to look up toward his house and was startled to see that it appeared to be on fire.[4] He hurried home, but when he reached the house he saw that it was not burning at all, and he entered. On his bed he beheld what looked like a flame of fire, but upon going closer he found that it was a beautiful woman fast asleep.

Great news! We can confirm that Dr Tun Aung has been granted several reductions to his sentence, and according to the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission (MNHRC) now has one year and one month left to serve in prison.
An AI member received a letter from the MNHRC confirming that Dr Tun Aung was transferred to Insein prison on 6 February 2014.
In the letter, signed and sent by Commissioner Secretary Sit Myaing and dated 29 May 2014, the MNHRC states that “Letter[s]from various chapters of Amnesty International requesting, among others, the immediate release of Dr Tun Aung without conditions were received by the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission. The Commission after proper examination of these letters conveyed them to the authorities in order that the concerns expressed in the letters receive careful consideration”.
The letter continues: “With a view to obtaining first-hand information of Dr. Tun Aung, a team from the MNHRC visited Sittwe Prison on 11 November 2013 and had interviewed him exclusively to find out the situation”.
The letter states that Dr. Tun Aung was granted a nine year reduction to his sentence as a result of the December 2013 Presidential pardon and a further one year reduction as a result of a Presidential order of 20 January 2014. The letter also states that he received other reductions under the terms of the Prison Manual.
According to the MNHRC, as a result of these reductions, Dr. Tun Aung now has one year and one month left to serve in prison. We are trying to confirm his exact release date.
The MNHRC also asserts that Dr. Tun Aung is receiving regular medical attention while in Insein prison, including specialist medical treatment and that his family can visit him in prison.
Next steps
This is a fantastic result in Dr. Tun Aung’s case. At one point he was facing 17 years in prison. Now we are told he will be released in just over a year. But we need him to be released sooner. We need him to be released now.
We believe these positive developments in Dr. Tun Aung’s case come as a result of ongoing campaigning of AI – and others – for his release, including the over 100,000 appeals that were sent as part of the LWM. This shows that the authorities are susceptible to international pressure, and we therefore are planning another big push to call for his immediate release. We are still discussing the best timing and strategy for an action, and will provide further details shortly. Source text - English Asset markets performed exceptionally well in April. Government yields declined, corporate risk premiums compressed and equities rallied. Surprisingly, this occurred as rising oil prices continued to stoke fears of both inflation and dampened growth, and as funding strains in the periphery of Europe worsened. Less surprisingly, the rally also occurred despite S&P putting the US government's AAA rating on negative outlook. Historically, this has implied a one in three chance of a downgrade in the next few years, an event that would have significant consequences for the global financial system.
As expected, the European Central Bank (ECB) raised its policy rate by 25 basis points (bps) to 1.25%%, and the tightening cycle would likely continue until the policy rate reaches 2% by the end of the year. In contrast, the Bank of England (BoE) held steady in the face of deteriorating economic data. The Federal Reserve (Fed) not only reiterated its intention to complete its asset purchase program but also committed to re-investing cash flow from its existing holdings once the program concludes, in order to avoid the natural tightening of monetary conditions through roll-down. While central banks in Canada and Australia remained on hold as well, Singapore's central bank re-centered the currency band target higher in an effort to reduce imported inflation.
Peripheral Europe's funding strains deepened, driven by a combination of market sentiment, the ECB's hawkish stance and disappointing economic news. Rumours that Greece would imminently announce details of a debt restructuring reached a crescendo during the middle of the month, but were eventually quashed by announcements of additional austerity measures and support from Europe's political leadership. Finally, Irish authorities released the results of its stress tests. Most important for asset pricing, the authorities announced that senior bondholders would not be subjected to haircuts on those banks that were stressed, though subordinated bondholders would be.

Source text - English Greece is farther from regaining access to private capital markets than it was more than a year ago, when the EU/IMF announced a bailout package in exchange for severe fiscal austerity. The yield on two-year Greek bonds has nearly quadrupled -- from 7% to over 25% -- since May of last year. Without these public sector programs, not only for Greece but for Ireland and Portugal as well, private sector borrowing costs would all but guarantee insolvency and ultimate default by all three countries. Even with public support it was always going to be challenging to engineer an economic transformation before reform fatigue set in. Ireland and Portugal, suffering from soaring unemployment, have already experienced collapses in domestic voter support for the ruling political parties that implemented early austerity measures. There is no such thing as expansionary fiscal austerity and the uphill battle continues.
Against this backdrop, one would normally expect central bankers to try to dampen the deflationary impulse of fiscal austerity with looser monetary policy. And we are not shy of adding interest rate risk if and when opportunities arise in these markets, especially on longer-dated yields, which remain historically wide of short-dated yields.
The ECB, however, is tightening monetary conditions, signaling to markets that its policy rate will double in the coming year. In response, the 12-month Euribor rate has increased from 1.2% a year ago to 2.2% today, with forward markets pricing in further increases through year-end.
The European periphery will suffer deeper recessions, higher unemployment and an extended period of domestic discontent in the name of shared monetary policy with the European core.
Spanish house price depreciation has begun to intensify, having moderated last year. Part of the explanation is surely the rise in the 12-month Euribor rate, which is by far the dominant mortgage reference rate in Spain.
