Dear all,

After several crashes I am nearly giving my Trados up (saying this is easier that doing. I know I will have to make do with my Trados until at least I deliver my last translation).

Let me describe here my problem:

Dear all,

After several crashes I am nearly giving my Trados up (saying this is easier that doing. I know I will have to make do with my Trados until at least I deliver my last translation).

Let me describe here my problem:
I launch the Trados Studio. I can go as far as opening the file in the program, I can even use it...
The problem shows up, when I want to add a term. It does not add... and when I reask for a term addition, the programme fails and I have to start all over again.

The FAQ of Trados does unfortunately not encompass all these issues, it gives a relevant information that is ONLY applicable for 2007. So, when I am following their steps, the programme keeps on failing.

When I want to use the assistance from the support team via my SDL account, I should first pay the fee for help desk (which is fair). Which is not fair, is that the help desk is not very competent. I had provided them last time all the screenshots and information about an error, and when the answer came, the support term had nearly expired.
Anyway, I should not complain so much about the company itself (at least not during this thread). My problem is described above. Do you have any suggestions as to how I can resolve it?

Best regards, Binnur

Thank you for your remarks PCovs. I have gained the access to other relevant files just after I submitted my forum, so I am definitely with you (indeed there have been sufficient forums on this issue).
I will hope there will a match as well with a PC running at XP with ''windows 2003'' platform.

Java related problems Mar 24, 2010

Check please, which Java version is installed on your system.
Via Control Panel open the Java utility and from the last tab there switch off the "Allow next generation plug-in".
Then restart Studio - this should work.
However, if you have a lot of different Java versions, also this may be problematic.
Look for Java-related problems in this forum, there have been many answers already.

It appears that I have received your message after I answered to PCovs.

About Java, you are right. It was what Trados was saying. I have vainly done what their FAQ said.
Finally I restored the system to an earlier time (before the update of JAVA to a version which is very uncompatible.) By doing this I hoped to get rid of JAVA last version. Maybe it(I mean ''getting rid of'') was a success, but this did not help in solving the problem.

I uninstalled everything from all Java's till Trados 2007 and Studio 2009 and reinstalled them.

Now, it is quasi good. That means, I am now only struggling with on-the-fly term addition while I am working in the ''editor''. The only way I am able to add the term, is starting the programme over and over again (removing and readding the termbase) and then when the editor and termbase viewer are getting opened (are not fully operatable then) I click arbitrarily on one word in the termbase viewer to edit: Guess what, it works then!
Still, I don't think this should be the most efficient way. More clever thoughts are therefore always welcome..
Best regards,
Binnur

Have you used WB 2007? Mar 24, 2010

Hi Binnur,

You don't say what version of Studio you are using but SP2 encounters registry problems with MultiTerm if you switch between Studio and WB 2007. After using WB, you need to launch Studio with the batch file you can download from the SDL Knowledge Base (article 3093).

FWIW

Trados SP1 Mar 24, 2010

Dear Giles,

Thank you for another precious remark.

I updated my Trados 2007 freelance version to Studio 2009 (SP1). All versions are installed and running in the same licensed computer.

Do you mean workbench 2007? Is it the same thing as Trados 2007 Freelance version or I am making up a story?

Looking forward to your reply!

BR,

Binnur

Problems with Trados Studio SP1 (Platform XP, Windows 2003)

Description of the problem
Disfunctioning of
on-the-fly Term addition properties while working in the Editor

To sort the problem out:
Do not always update JAVA as not all updates are compatible with your Trados. Trados is notorious for that.

If you already added this incompatible JAVA, uninstall it as it is most likely to have corrupted your previously installed JAVA. You uninstall any JAVA you see in the '’Add-remove programs’.

Now, your Trados cannot work properly without Java. So, you need to install Java and it should be a correct Java. The Java is a component of the Trados application. So when you uninstall and reinstall your Trados modules (Trados 2007, Trados Studio and then Multiterm 2009) your correct Java will be installed.

This Java is the correct one but it is bound to be corrupted again as your system will keep asking you to make new updates. You can bypass this problem by going to Control Panel (make sure all the other windows applications are closed).

Control Panel => Java = > (JAVA CONTROL PANEL) => Advanced => Java Plug-in => uncheck Enable next-generation Java Plug-in => Apply => OK => Restart computer

There is a possibility that your problem persists (due to space requirements in the memory). In this case, go to Control Panel once more, after you close all other windows applications.

Control Panel => Java = > (JAVA CONTROL PANEL) Java => View => Runtime Parameters (on all of the runtime parameters' sections you will have to write –Xmx768) => OK => Apply => Restart computer

Start your Editor in your Trados Studio software. Add as many terms as you want.

Best regards,

Binnur

Thank you! Apr 6, 2010

Hi, Binnur,
It worked, thank you!

I only wonder now, what to do, if other problems require updated Java.... And I like my Trados even less

Best regards,

Joanna

What to do if other problems arise Apr 6, 2010

Dear Joanna,

Let's hope SDL Trados recruits me as their operator or freelance help desk if these problems show up....

Have a good translation day!
