Everything you ever wanted to know about bikes Nowadays with so many bicycles using dérailleurs, the more common application is for the use of the "narrow" chain (3/32") however, on single speeds and internally geared hubs such as the Sturmey Archer three speed, the wider (1/8") is used. (the narrower chains wont fit the Sturmey sprockets)

O passo é a distância entre dois elos e 1/8" é a largura do rolo entre as chapas laterais, ou seja, a largura livre no meio da corrente.
Example sentence:
