Dutch term

dichtslippen

Dutch to English Tech/Engineering Manufacturing Service and Maintance Manual
Hi all,

Busy with what is supposed to be general terms and conditions for a firm selling water purification systems but there is a small file included which is actually a service and maintenance manual. Bit technical in places but have most of it under control. However need some assistance with "dichtslippen" in this context:

"Gebruik enkel originele filters. Andere filters kunnen het dichtslippen van membranen veroorsaak.

Only use original filters. Other filters can cause membranes to xxxx ??

Probably very easy but can't get my head around it right now.

TIA
Debbie

Must be - thanks Marinus!
Non-ProZ.com May 30, 2005:
Sorry - Marinus, is definitely a Dutch text but when typing it over from memory I let some Afrikaans interference slip in there (veroorsaak) - "Gebruik enkel originele filters. Andere filters kunnen het dichtslippen van membranen veroorzaken" but agree with you may well be a typo for "dichtslibben"

clog up, blind

It's not slippen in Dutch, but more like 'slibben' from 'slib' (sludge). So the membranes can clog up if there is no proper filter used. I think your text is Afrikaans, by the way.

agree pyco : Working in the field, I can indeed confirm clog up.
