I also believe the term "spiritual needs" is more relevant in this context. So, I added the term "spiritual needs" subsequently.

I have a different interpretation of the term "psyche" (or "psychic"). In the broad sense, one's "psyche" encompasses one's soul, self and mind. Psychology is the study of one's psyche.

spiritual needs/pursuits (in this, context), I bet, Denyce... because that's what's logical to go with religion. (spiritual is not the same as psychological in strict usage)

I understand the Chinese phrase means "requiring or demanding attention, or require to be alert", so I'd translate it exactly as what they mean.
