French term

godet

French to English Tech/Engineering Electronics / Elect Eng Lithium batteries
Context:
different PR task so godet is not a bucket.

Translated as cup:
This eliminates the need to bend the electrical connection tabs in the upper part of the cup. The height of the tabs is thus reduced, making it possible to increase the dimensions of the electrodes and thus increase the capacity of the battery element for the same cup size.

Is this the correct term for a Lithium battery?
TIA Chris.

@ All https://www.tobmachine.com/automatic-pouch-cell-case-cup-for...

this machine produces cups and pouches, apparently.
Bashiqa (asker) Apr 6:
@ Phil and others The godet in the source has now in places become poche. So, I`ll continue with cup and pouch. Both terms appear in various company websites in sections about lithium batteries. Thank you all.

@ All first, Johannes. In the tranlation that I provided it refers to both cup and bucket. One of your references also mentions both of them in a patenet not well written as different terms used for same source word. Bourth, I don`t like the idea of a Lithium battery being in a tin can. Third, Liz, Housing seems to be a better alternativ as later there is a cover. Thanks to all, I`ll now do a bit of work after drive around the countryside.

@All My apologies for not replying earlier but had visit to ophthalmo for check on laser treatment. However round trip is 300 km + waiting 3/4 hour and more. Good news is that I have 10/10 vision, not bad for an old fogey.
accumulator container An accumulator container is designed to safeguard the cells from external impacts and vibrational loads, which otherwise can lead to safety hazards.

It's not 'pouch' as far as I can see That's 'poche'.

The negative electrode is electrically connected to the bucket of the accumulator. Depending on the size of the battery, the positive can be at the bucket and the negative at an output terminal. After insertion into the cup, the electrochemical bundle is impregnated with the electrolyte. The accumulator is then sealed. The bucket is also conventionally equipped with a safety valve (operculum), which causes the battery to open when the internal pressure of the gases is greater than a predetermined value.

In flat cell constructions, the anode is pressed onto the container base. The cathode is a disc positioned above the anode, separated from anode by the separator. This construction has the same safety advantages as the bobbin structure. Lithium button cells are similarly constructed, apart from the sealing system (plastic seal).

A safety device interrupts charging when an unsafe operating condition is detected. The safety device may be a circuit breaker, such as a relay connected between the charging device and the cell. It may also be a thinning made in a portion of the wall of the cell container. The thinning is torn by excess pressure inside the container, the thinning, on being torn, interrupts electrical conduction between the electrodes of one polarity and the corresponding current output terminal.

[0051] … Also, the lithium secondary battery may further selectively include a battery container accommodating an electrode assembly of the positive electrode, the negative electrode, and the separator, and a sealing member sealing the battery container.

Abstract: A method for connecting electrodes of the same polarity of an accumulator (1) to a current output terminal (6, 7), the accumulator including two current output terminals (6, 7), a container (2) containing an electrochemical bundle (9) having alternating positive and negative electrodes, the ends of the current collectors of the positive and negative electrodes defining a first (Si) and second (S2) surface respectively.

agree philgoddard : Both of your 'bucket' references are translations from French, so I wouldn't trust them. 'Godet' appears to be a synonym of 'conteneur'.

Thank you!
neutral liz askew : hmm you have nicked my answers, but according to the asker this = pouch, also few of your refs. refer to lithium batteries.

I beg your pardon? I didn't steal anything! Where did you suggest "container"? You proposed "housing" 3 hours later.

can

Working on the strength of a pistolet à godet being a 'can-type spray gun', I went a lookin' for 'can'.

The function of the cell can or enclosure is to contain the chemistry over the lifetime of the battery cell and to allow the electrical, mechanical and thermal connections [ … ] Weldability
external electrical connections will need to be made the the +ve and -ve terminals
the can itself might need to be welded at a number of stages during it’s manufacture and cell assembly
[ … ] environmental vibration and inputs during use need to be accounted for in the can and assembly design
[ … ]in order to understand the function of the cell can or enclosure it is useful to understand how a battery cell is made.

Canning or Enclosing
THE ELECTRODES EITHER AS A ROLL OR PACK OF STACKED LAYERS ARE LOADED INTO THE CAN OR POUCH. Depending on the cell format will change how this canning or enclosing process is completed.
Challenges
• Ensuring no debris in can
https://www.batterydesign.net/battery-cell-manufacturing-pro...

Battery enclosure: A battery enclosure is a housing that protects batteries from damage and provides a way to connect them to devices. The enclosure may be made of plastic, metal, or other materials, and it may be sealed or vented. Battery enclosures can be used with both primary (disposable) and secondary (rechargeable) batteries.
https://greenfrogsystems.com.au/glossary/battery-enclosure/

I'm not sure in this last example, though, that the 'battery enclosure' is not a housing for several cells, as opposed to a 'can' (think of the shape of a can (or as my elders used to say, 'tin') of Coke.

I've done as much as I can ;-), I think. It must be time for a godet de bière.
