Sep 27, 2021 22:09: Andrea Capuselli changed "Term Context" from "New duties for an injured person: PIT cleaning / covid decontamination, spotter, admin learning, HR duties as required, assisting AMCARE, 5S taping. One who cleans spots?" to "Context removed by ProZ.com staff."

Discussion

philgoddard Sep 23, 2021:
Onur and Althea have both provided convincing references that give a small number of hits. I don't think we can be certain which is the correct answer, assuming one of them is, and neither gives a clear explanation of "spotter". This is internal company terminology.

observer

'A spotter looks for or observes a particular thing as a hobby or a job, for instance, a person who observes weather patterns for an organization.'
In the area of health and sanitation, perhaps a spotter is an observer or even an inspector.

Outside in the warehouse yard, a spotter is someone who drives a spotter vehicle, moving trailers to and from the spot where they are dropped off/collected and where they are unloaded/loaded -

"Spotting
Placing a container in a position from which it can be loaded or unloaded."

However, I have since found out that there are also spotters inside the warehouse that work with forklift operators. They direct the forklift operator and watch out for (spot) potential hazards that the forklift operator can't see and communicate this to the operator.

Peer comment(s):

agree Tony M : Seems most likely, given all the context; though we still don't really know what sense 'spot' has here? Or even getting them to park in the right spot?! Seems the best explanation! Or the forklift 'lookout'

Thanks Tony. I've looked into it a wee bit more and have added another commen that might shed more light on this
neutral Yvonne Gallagher : with Tony's comments//yes, more likely to do with the forklifts I think

I've added a bit more info above to try to clarify matters a bit better.
