Does a freelance translator need an ABN number?

Dear my fellow translators,

Im wondering if a freelance translator really need an ABN number in Australia ??

...if you're dealing with agencies they will ask you for ABN. And it's easy to register and free of charge. (I did it online two years ago.)

In case you earn over 50,000 AUD per year you need to register for GST otherwise not.

Just visit the web-site or your nearest Taxation Office.

Do we have to charge GST to foreign clients or only Australian clients?
